Ensure the integrity of your smile with dental crowns and bridges.
Dental crowns and bridges have been used in restorative dental care for many years, and with advancements in dental technology, we are able to use the most effective material to ensure your restoration stays functional and beautiful.
At Argyle Street Family Dental in Parramatta, we utilise high quality porcelain in order to create your restorations. This is beneficial due to porcelain’s naturally strong, durable and translucent nature, which means your restoration can be colour-matched to your teeth and appear almost invisible! Porcelain is also stain resistant, so your smile can look brighter for longer.
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are also known as ‘dental caps’ are used when teeth are broken or weakened, they sit perfectly over the damaged tooth to restore its beauty, structure and integrity. Dental crowns are also used to protect the tooth from further damage and decay, and in conjunction with dental implants to solve tooth loss.
When are dental crows recommended?
As dental crowns are effectively rebuilding and replacing your tooth, the most common reason for your dentist recommending crowns is to strengthen the remaining tooth structure.
Dental crowns to strengthen teeth
- Extensive tooth decay
- Broken, cracked or fractured teeth
- Teeth that have had root canal treatment
- Excessive teeth wear due to heavy biting or acid exposure
In all of these situations the crown slides over the remaining tooth structure to protect and create the new form of the tooth. In some situations if there is not enough remaining tooth structure left, procedures that increase the amount of tooth structure available for the crown to hold on to is required in order for the treatment to be a success. This may include inserting a post into the root system or crown lengthening.
Dental crows to improve or whiten your smile.
Due to them being made out of porcelyn, dental crowns have the amazing ability to look exactly like or even better than your natural teeth. For this reason they can be used in sitations where you want your smile to be improved through either whitening or a complete make-over.
What are bridges?
Bridges are essentially three or more dental crowns bonded together to form a line or small arch, and are typically used to ‘bridge’ the gap left by missing teeth. The two end crowns are placed over the teeth sitting adjacent to the site of tooth loss with the middle crowns plugging the gap, effectively restoring the smile to its natural appearance.
Dental bridges are excellent in the situation where you have two teeth that require structure support, separated by a severely damaged or missing tooth. They are an excellent and strong replacement and can also improve the look of your smile significantly.
